Most advice about trackers is really advice about finding networks — how many strangers’ phones are quietly looking for your lost thing. That matters enormously for a suitcase in another country and barely at all for keys behind a cushion, because Bluetooth already reaches across a normal house. If your keys are almost always lost at home, you are buying a speaker on a keyring, and the two questions that decide it are how loud it is and whether it clips to your keys without a separate holder.     Uses the enormous Find My network, so it's found long after a Bluetooth-only tag has gone quiet. iPhone only for the precision finding — Android users should look elsewhere.

    Who it’s for: iPhone owners who want one tag that covers both the sofa and the last bus home.

    Worth knowing: It has no keyring hole at all, so you must buy a holder to attach it to anything — a real added cost that reviews consistently flag. It is also quieter than a Chipolo, and on Android the network advantage largely disappears.

Common questions

Will a key finder help if I lose my keys outside the house?
Only up to a point, and it depends on the network rather than the tag. Once your keys are out of your phone’s Bluetooth range, recovery relies on other people’s phones passing nearby and reporting the location anonymously. Apple’s network is by far the largest of these, which is why the AirTag is the second pick here — but if out-of-house recovery is the main thing you want, read our tracker guide instead, which is written for exactly that case.
Do these work on Android?
The Chipolo ONE does, on both platforms, because it uses its own app rather than a phone maker’s network. The AirTag does not work properly on Android — you lose precision finding and most of the network benefit, which removes the main reason to choose it.
Is a loud tag really better than a big network?
For keys, usually yes. Ask where you actually lose them: if the honest answer is "somewhere in this house", a network of millions of phones adds nothing a loud beep would not have solved faster. If you regularly leave things in taxis, cafes or on trains, the network is worth more than the volume, and the trade goes the other way.
