How much height do I actually need above my desk?
Measure from your desktop to the nearest thing above it — shelf, windowsill, sloping ceiling — and compare that against how far the desk you are considering travels. Standing desks are usually quoted as a height range from the floor, so work out the difference between the top of that range and where your desktop sits now. If the obstruction is lower than that difference, the desk will hit it before it reaches your standing height, and the extra travel you paid for is money wasted.
Is a converter as good as a real standing desk?
No, and it is not pretending to be. A frame gives you independent height, better stability and a clear desktop; a converter gives you the standing position without the room having to accommodate a new desk. In a room that can take a frame, buy the frame. The converter exists for rooms that cannot, and for people who are not yet sure they will stand often enough to justify replacing their furniture.
Does the frame come with a desktop?
